Giving extra Cortisone, (Cortef) upon first sign of virus (cold, ect.)

My daughter just got through her second cold of the year.Thanksgiving day she came to me with a sore throat and feeling bad (5 minutes before company was due for dinner) She asked to be held most of the day. I immediately gave her Children's Advil. I did something different this time too. I know we have directions for increasing their cortisone (Cortef in her case) when she gets a fever, vomits ect. BUT, I thought to myself, why not give her a little extra now when this virus is just starting to attack her body? Sort of like a jump start to battleing off this virus. So I did. I actually gave her a small quarter piece of a 5 mg Cortef tablet. I continued to do so before bed along with another dose of Advil. Expecting a fever as we ALWAYS do, I dressed her lightly for the evening. (She is a very HOT sleeper) Her body temp., I swear raises a few degrees even without a virus but I am the same way. I wonder why. There has to be some hormone thing. Anyway. I think that may have helped (knock on wood), prevent a fever this time. This is the FIRST time she had a cold virus without a fever. Perhaps this was a virus that did include a fever, or she is growing out of the fever stages if there is such a thing. Or it was a fluke. But to me it just makes sense that you would increase their cortisone to help fight off a virus starting to take over their little bodies. Don't you? Then again you don't want to over abuse Cortisone for the obvious reasons of bone density loss ect. But which is worse? I guess you would have to use it with caution and NOT over abuse it. I know (I think it is Shaun) that does this. Any input here would be nice too. (geesh you don't hear from me for months and now I have two posts filled with questions!) Thanks again.
