Laura KVal,
As Jenni mentioned, you need to consider the child's BSA when looking at doses. Sandra's son is an infant, so his BSA would be about 0.5 m2. His dose of 25 mg divided by his BSA would be about 50mg/m2, which is close to Jenni's daughter's dose.
We inject 50 mg as well, which works out to slightly less than 50mg/m2 for my girls. The rational for the high dose is this - if you are injecting, they are headed for trouble. I read that a normal child's cortisol output increases from 5 to 10 times the usual amount under severe stress. We haven't had a hospitalization in a couple of years, I believe because I am no longer afraid to use the shot if the vomiting doesn't stop immediately. We've never had to use it twice.
