SueMy soon to be 3 years old daughter has just started going to nursery last month. She has CAH as well and salt wasting. I went through a lot of anxiety just thinking of putting her with someone who may not know much about CAH. As you did, I post a message in this board asking for help and I did get lots of very helpful advise and hints. So, I hope that I could help you with some hints from all the other parents as well as my own experience. First, it would be helpful to get a letter from your child's endo explaining the condition, medication and treatment in emergency situation as well as contact numbers and other relevent infor. Then I got some reading materials on CAH to pass to the nursery and stressed to the child minder the importance of looking out for certain signs like fever, vomitting and diarrhea and to contact myself or my husband immediately as well as to give her the oral cortisone (stress dose) and to call the ambulance if neither of us could be contacted after half an hour. When calling the ambulance, to tell the paramedics that the child is adrenally insufficient and cortisone dependent and needs solu cortef injection. Then pass the letter from the endo to the paramedics. In my endo's letter to the nursery, she also mentioned that as with other normal child, to call the ambulance immediately if the child is seriously ill or injured. If you have the solu cortef (for injection) with you, you might want to prepare a kit together with the letter and leave it with the day care to pass to the paramedics. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Sue.
