SandraThanks to all of you for your info. I read through all of the posts but I will reread them tonight when all is quite here at my mother in laws. Our trip was Ok. We did have a scare. Jackson was seen by the ped on Thursday before we left and Jackson did have an ear infection. I asked the dr. what he thought we should do and he seemed to think that it would be ok to go on our trip. It would be wise to stay by larger cities was his recommendation. So we went. Jackson was on amox for his ear infection. He did have a fever a few days earlier and I had doubled his cortef. He was responding really well. We left Thursday afternoon and drove until about 1:00am when we pulled up into Ft. Stockton. I was trying to nurse him and his nose was very stuffy. Everyone was sleeping except for Jackson and I and all of a sudden I felt him vomit! I freaked out and yelled at my husband to turn the light on. I sat Jackson on the bed while I tried to figure out what to do. This was my worst fear coming true. He threw up two more times. I was ready to pass out! I called the oncall number for the endo in NY. I am not kidding when I say that they must have called me no longer than 1 minute after I paged them. I got Dr. Su. She talked to me and we decided that he didn't need any further medication. If he threw up in the morning after his meds then I needed to try again or give him the shot! I was already starting to panic but somehow was able to calm down. We all laid down and went to sleep. Well, everybody but me! I watched him the entire time. His did throw up alot of the green gunk he was swallowing. He was able to breathe alot better and he got his appetite back. By the next morning he was his usual happy self!! The rest of the drive was wonderful. I know many pediatrician here since I've lived in So. Cal for 28 yrs! Jackoson is still doing well. He is a little cranky but I think that the change of places is upsetting him a little bit.
As far as the numbers they all turned out great. The nurse from my endo here in Houston called me on the cell phone during our drive. She said that the renin was at 3100 (I can't remember the measurement) but I remember in NY it was at 3300 and they thought it was fine. So, I was very happy. His 17ohp was at about 560 and the other one that I can't remember how to spell (andosterione) was at about 30. So, the nurse said that because of the low Co2 Dr. Karaviti wanted him to start Florinef even though his other electrolytes were great. Dr. Su and Dr. New didn't want to argue with Dr. Karaviti so they said that it wouldn't hurt him but that they didn't feel it was necessary.
Well, after all is said and done, Jackson is getting better. He is smiling away and everyone is just loving him to death! I really am enjoying being around family. It is nice to be home.
Just a note, the pediatrician and the lab tech both didn't feel that the 17 for Co2 was anything to be too concerned about. The lab tech told me that the Co2 is very unstable and that it depended alot if they process or send the blood out right away. Even then they told me that it is unstable. So, I feel pretty good about Jackson's numbers right now and I also feel pretty good about how he is feeling. He is on a low amot of cortef but he seems to be doing well on it.
Val, you do amaze me at how fast you can pull information out! I printed out the reference ranges to add to my files. Thanks for that!
Thanks for all your prayers and help trying to figure this out!! I really, really appreciate you all taking time to help me.
I don't know how often I will be able to check in because we are going to and from different family members houses so we'll see who's computer I can use!!
thanks again,
Sandra
