Val17 OHP is the pre cursor hormone that accumulates before all the other's are made and that is what they look out for building up first in the blood serum. The 17 OHP tests result that you gave seems to be in the top end of the range from my calculations Julie. It seems within normal limits when I work it out---I think Carol is on hol's---so you have to put up with my naff maths for now-LOL! (I think the normal ranges in nmol are 10-50nmol/L for 17 OHP and to convert you multiply by either 30 or 32!) But even multiplying 50 nmol by 32, it looks like the she is at the top end of the "normal" ranges when converted to ng/dl!. I have read that 40nmol is pushing it though! That would be 1280 in ng/dl (usining 32 to multiply!) and she is within that even from your results posted above. It seems by those that she is within the parameters for control where 17 OHP is concerned---but I have an abstract that states this is not an accurate way to determine the androstenedione levels--and I would need to search for what the normal levels are for both that and testosterone. I know that when Ash's renin was 18.8 nmol---it was considered high. Now converting to ng/dl is another matter for that. (I have a great deal to learn I can tell you yet---but I should be coming up to speed on these this year---I learn as things crop up for Ash which is the best way to learn!
As for the pill---I posted a week before christmas day I think---I wrote to the Manufacturers---maybe you could cut and paste the letter I got back from Douglas Pharmaceuticals here in NZ and send it to the big wigs at Up john or equiv there in the US. Obviously since they are contemplating making a 1mg pill here now since my letter---it can help to write. If you send a copy to them---they may just see that in other parts they ARE actually considering this now and that they need to get a wriggle on! Until then Julia---are you splitting pills to just 2.50mg or 1.25mg? It's just that most Endo's do not think to quarter the 5mg pills but there is no law that say's that a parent cannot and that they can't wrk in increments of 1.25mg dose raises. At least until the manufacturers make the smaller tablets anyway's!
Hope that this helps--until Carol get's back and put's her mathematical head on, I can only hope that SOME of what I posted is right here! (She is somewhere ski-ing with her kids---and I think she is back today-ish!)
Regards
Val
