Re: forgot the units of her results....here they are

No you did not forget, they were in the other post!  I think she is ok where the 17 OHP is concerned and when I get some time later, if Carol has not posted I will check out testosterone and androstenedione.  Ash's 17 OHP was 88nmol this last time---which is 2640 in ng/dl or thereabouts.  That means that it is out of the ranges again.  He had his blood tests on the 29th October and if you remember though, he had the vomiting ---stomach flu on the 24th October.  He did have two jabs and made a good recovery, but I am hoping that it was the illness that caused the 17 OHP to be elevated.  We were promised 24 hour monitoring in January but I have now had a three page letter from te hospital that provides outpaitents care and on the third page it states that they will keep an eye on his levels BEFORE they resort to that.  When we attended a meeting in Novemebr they had promised us that they would definately do this because of the change in dosing regime alone!  The three page letter was a response to an in depth complaint I have submitted in writing.  The hopsital are not prepared to fund blood tests more than they are already performing.  Currently they only do 17 OHP three monthly and renin 6 monthly unless the levels are not right, then 17 OHP is monthly.

Due to all that I have had to dig around on medical sites for abstracts that refer to androstenedione and testsoterone in relation to the 17 OHP to "prove" that they still really should be running all the others as a basic requirement.  I have now made a full blown complaint to the Health & Disability Commissioner here in NZ, but it can take 6 months to deal.  In the meantime we have had his main Endo care switched to Wellington Hospital and we are currently waiting for a referral from another Endo.  I am brow beaten with it all to be honest.  It is very frustrating---and I wrote back to the hospital here to complain and say that ALL these tests where done even when Ashley was in the so called "normal" ranges up to two years ago and yet NOW somehow these folks seem to think they KNOW MORE than other Endo's Internationally!!!  Since all other Endos's still use the other tests---and your post above illustrates my point here Julia---as your daughters 17 OHP is within the normal ranges and yet ATLEAST they have taken the andrestenedione and testosterone to refer to!   I feel like marching into the damn hospital and baging a few heads together at the moment.  You know what I am like---the Customer Relations Officer wore it on the day after Boxing Day---in e-mail!  I gave her a very short sharp unadulterated piece of my mind!  Told her to BE a Customer Relations Officer for a change instead of whatever else she did---i,e, twiddle thumbs all day!  As it is now--I am not sure if we WILL get the 24hr profiling in January BEFORE Ash goes back to school.  He has his annual bone age in January also--so when I wrote to the Customer Relations Officer I suggested that they "make" an appointment available (as we normally have his appt date BEFORE xmas here for the x-ray! --- and of course we never had an appointment  card---so by this time as you can imagine I am rapidly losing patience with these guys and feeling definately like I could scream!) pdq and BEFORE the 27th January or I will complain to the health & Disability Commissioner about THAT also to say that WHEN one actually complains, the service get's worse at this particular hospital!  This of course is not meant to happen and if anything should improve!

I am really hoping that the high 17 OHP IS just the flu bug aftermath and not the fact that he escaped so wildly last time that he cannot be stopped from going into puberty now.  They sent a blood form for a tests to be done BEFORE xmas and we could not get that done as it arived on the friday afternoon 24th December and all the bloods labs close for the hols!  He was meant to have the blood tests morning and it was too late.  So when I wrote the above I also mentioned this and said it was inefficient and that I would NOT be submitting any bloods in January when the labs opened up when they had promised 24 hour profiling anyway.  Why subject him to too many blood draws.  I dont know---half the time they just dont seem to se their common sense at all in all this.  Very frustrating.   Sorry to bleat---especially when you have problems too---but I guess I am trying to say here---I know how you feel at the moment!
