Like I said in my other post Val, we did not make this decision lightly. Contact was made by dozens of people over a 2+/- YEAR period of time telling people that the meds weren't working. They showed blatant deception when, at the Magic Convention they continued to hand out the old flyers instructing people to shake the bottle for 5 to 7 minutes (not 20 - 7 is bad enough(:>)) when they knew full well that a total recall was already being released. They had a captive audience of people who use the medicine for their very lives right there in front of them and chose to ignore that. It was my pharmacist who informed me immediately - not them. This is deception and definately unethical. Yes, they eventually recalled it, but that was when the FDA stepped in. AFTER the loss of lives and 2 years of poor control. It wasn't reformulated because they could no longer reasonably obtain the ingredient that kept it suspended NOT because it was recalled. Just because a company is a major manufacturer and supplier doesn't mean that they make it better, or are not capable of making a mistake or putting a price tag on a child's life over the cost of a recall. It seems that you are missing one important fact. It wasn't "a faulty batch" that was the problem. It was the entire formulation (recipe)that they would have continued to mass manufacture just like it was if not for people like the ones on this board who relentlessly stepped up and complained over and over again and insisted that there was a problem. There were thousands of bottles out there floating around not hundreds. Some people depended upon it for their very lives and others for less severe afflictions. As for closer dosing, the point is IT DIDN'T WORK!!! How close can you get with something that isn't doing it's job? I am currently in contact with a scientist from a MAJOR pharmaceutical company and we are tossing around some ideas regarding this matter. He is a big wig and took one look at my son's picture and promised to check into it. As far as finances go, they CAN help to reverse or at least ease some of the damage that was done. Many parents need extensive berievement counseling, others have to take costly meds for the next 10 years in order to have the slightest hope of recovering some of the damage. Those meds alone cost $40,000 per year and are not covered by insurance. Some children need counseling as well, and one parent told me that she would only find closure for herself when she could afford to put a headstone on her child's grave site. I really don't expect you to fully understand our legal system Val so I won't go any further as we are currently in litigation but I can say that WE know that we have saved some lives (from letters we have received) and that we ARE doing the right thing in the right way. Of that we have NO doubts and NO regrets.
