SandraI completely agree with you that we should not put all our hope into gene therapy being "the" cure. I think that it noone really knows how long it will be because of all the hurdles still in the way. My hope is that as the years go by, research and success in research will go forward exponentially. I look at the fact that the scientific community didn't think that they were going to get the genome project completed until 2005 and they did it in the year 2000! That was a complete gene mapping.
I know that mapping and actual cures from gene therapy are very different things put the potential is there. I totally agree with you that we should be very, very thankful for treatment. I certainly am. I would have died if they told me that their was no cure and no treatment! I think that trying to get better treatment is a goal that we all should shoot for but we can't forget that someday there will be a cure. If it's 15 years away, fantastic. If it's 30 years away that is still wonderful!! Whatever the time frame is fine with me. I just want them to keep trying everyday until CAH is cured!
I just thought I would mention to all parents who are new to CAH and those that have been around it for a long time, let's shoot for effective treatment and pursue the dream of a cure. If we don't dream it might never happen.
