I don't think it is anything like Sidney here.  We live in the sticks anyway and there is nothing on the road when you compare it with somewhere like Sidney.  I have only been driving two years---because the public transport system sucks.  Up to that point I was happy with buses and trains.  However, here you need your licence really to get around.
