Hi Sue,

First, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!  I hope you are feeling a bit better than when you first came to this mb.  My son was not diagnosed at birth, but it can all be incredibly overwhelming, I know.

You're right that, offhand, compared to children who are a bit older, 6 mgs. of HC sounds like a lot, for a newborn.  On the other hand, glucocorticoid requirements seem to vary quite a bit from individual to individual, so I would be more inclined to first see how your daughter seems to be doing on this dose, before deciding if there is a problem.

At 9.7 lbs., her weight seems to be growing at about the 75%ile line for her age?  How has her height kept up?  If she is gaining proportionately, height and weight, then that is a good sign.  If her weight starts to out-pace her gain in height, or if she is not gaining in height at all, then I would start to question whether her dose needs to be reduced. Other signs of overtreatment would be if she develops a very round, or "moon" face.  Also, if she develops excess body hair.

As far as what to ask your  pediatric endocrinologist, I would probably just start with the ones that have cropped up in your head, as you've read this mb.  Parents all seem to have many of the same questions, so this is a good start.  As a new mother, it will take time to get to know your new daughter and learn the ins and outs of treatment.  It won't happen overnight, so go easy on yourself!

Best wishes!
