DandaraEven when babies are born without complications, some hospital nurseries insist on feeding the children on a schedule suited to the NURSERY, not the child. Especially in a busy hospital, it is easier for them to stick a bottle in than to bring the baby to it's mother.
When my son was born, he barely drank from me at all, even though my instructions were NO formula, and to wake me whenever he was hungry. I discovered that they were giving him "supplemental" feedings, "so they wouldn't have to disturb me." I went wild, moved my son into my room, and only let him leave for daily measurements. By "rooming in" with my son I was able to feed him when he was hungry, and hold him when he was not. Imagine going from the security of the womb to having a tube stuck up your nose!
My advice would be to move the child in with you, and be involved in every consultation. There may be 50 babies in that nursery, but your baby needs YOU!
Best of luck and congratulations!
