RosalieHi Aimee,
I'm so sorry that you had this experience with your endo. Actually, I'm shocked at this guy's insensitivity, particularly in view of the difficult subject matter that you were discussing.
I'd hate to think what he says to people who actually DO smoke and smell like an ashtray? Does he send them out of the room or tell them to come back when they've showered and washed all their clothes? Why doesn't he consult in a isolation bubble?
I shouldn't be writing this right now as I'm feeling very angry on your behalf. Actually I hate the smell of smoke on people too and am very sensitive to it, but every day some of my patients' parents and families come in reeking of smoke and one has to cope one way or another.
Have you thought of writing a carefully worded letter to the endo explaining how his comment made you feel?
Bless you Aimee.
Rosalie
