Lisa L.Hello Joanne -
Yes, I just tried to pick up my son’s prescription that I called in last week and was told that the full amount wasn’t available. But, my pharmacy wasn’t as kind as yours since they didn’t call me to tell me, they just waited until I showed up. The pharmacist actually tried to tell me first that the manufacturer wasn’t making the 5 mg tablets any more. Then he told me that it was on backorder. They keep telling me that the 10 mg tablets are available and in large supply. The main problem we have with that is that Ian takes 2.5 mg 3 times per day and if we quarter the 10 mg pills we can’t be sure he is getting the right amount of medicine.
This is the second time that I have tried to fill Ian’s prescription for cortef and had to wait because the drug was backordered. It eventually did come in the first time but I think it took at least 1 month. Apparently, this time it has been on backorder for a month already.
I’m not sure what the problem is or if it is the same problem as last time...UpJohn couldn’t keep up with the cortef since another manufacturer or drug was in short supply and the cortef was being substituted for that drug.
I am going to phone my endocrinologist to let her know that we are having trouble with getting cortef. I know there probably isn’t much she can do about it but I think she should know.
Hopefully, the situation will be straightened out soon but I don’t know where we go from here since our kids will stay on the cortef for a very long time.
