I know in the past (when it wasn’t a concern of mine) this board has discussed the behavior of children when they are under-supressed. I know that several of you have reported that you believe that your child is more aggressive.JanetDWell, I need some input (I’m also trying to touch base with our endocrine nurse for her input).
Olivia is just shy of 3 1/2. Lately she has been having what I consider to be major melt-downs. Maybe it a coincedence or maybe not, but often it about the time her medication is to be given or right after. I’ll go through the latest senerio...
Last night I gave her the 10pm dose somewhere between 9:20 and 9:30 (I was tired and needed to go to bed).
This morning Olivia wakes up about 6:15 when I’m in the kitchen trying to feed Ruthie. She starts calling from the bedroom how she needs me (there is no problem she just wants me) I am able to give her the am dose about 6:30-6:45 (if I remember right).
From this point on things just escalate with Olivia crying and carrying on. At this point I’m interpeting that she wants me to take care of her instead of her baby sister. I have learned to try to remain calm and ignore the behavior then I don’t aggitate her further. By 7:30 she is crying, screaming, and kicking walls -- she is mad at anything and everything. By 7:45 she starts to calm down, by a little after 8:00 she is fine and wants 1/2 a roast beef sandwich for breakfast. By 8:40 we are out of the house and heading for daycare and life is grand.
Is this normal? She knows she is having a rough time (often through the tears she tells me she just can’t stop).
Any input would be appricated.
Janet
