I agree that getting classified helps the child. At our district in CA we do not receive ANY extra funds when a child is deemed either special ed, resource, etc. The teachers are already there and they get assigned the child. This is happening right now at our school with a boy newly diagnosed as ADD. He is in my classroom and my coteacher and I have worked very hard and patiently with him all year. He is quite sweet with much potential yet impulsive, etc. Anyway, he is getting assigned chapter 504 (?) which is for behavior problems, at his mother’s request! (she is also a teacher and knows how this will be to his advantage). This basically sets a plan in place assuring that he gets extra help and modifications (ie. taking test in private and quiet atmosphere.)Julia S
