FLORINEF COLOR AND COMPANY CHANGE
May. 3rd, 2002   8:31am

Hello Everyone,

I have only had time to go back a few pages scanning to see if anyone has been frightened by the new look of Florinef., so if you guys have discussed this please ignore. Last week my husband opened a new bottle of Florinef and our hair stood on end because it was a white pill instead of the usual faint pink. I work in a hospital pharmacy so I called one of my co-workers to have her verify the "inscripted code" on the tablet. She verified that that yes the new white tablet was Florinef (brand name), but we were still confused about the color and the Manufacturer. Both have changed. So, I got the 1-800 phone numbers from Apothecon(the old Manufacturer) and Monarch Pharmaceuticals(new Maufacturer) to clarify the switch. I then went to my retail Pharmacy to talk to him about the change and to ask why  my husband was not told when he picked it up. OUR pharmacist showed me the bottle the med came from (new color, new bottle look, new company) and I compared it to what we had. It was the same. We then called the two companies. Monarch Pharm bought Florinef (brand name-not generic) from Apothecon and took the red dye out because lots of folks are allergic to red dye these days.

I was still not comforted by the information so I called Monarch Pharm. when I got to work that day to speak to a "person" about the switch. I identified myself as a MOTHER first and then as a pharmacist who had been lied to by Pharmacia/Upjohn about a medication change (Cortef Susp issue). The drug information specialist "ASSURED" med the Florinef formula had been bought from the old company and that the only difference was the deletion of the red dye

Beware, you may still see the APOTHECON PINK brand for up to a year because they said they had that much still left, but you may also see the MONARCH WHITE tab if they run out. The WHITE tablet should show SQUIBB and the number 429.

I hope this helps somone! If anyone wants more info. just post me a note!!!

Thanks for your attention!
