9 yrs old seems a little early for puberty, but not unheard of.  My daughter was much younger when we first saw signs of puberty.  She was put on Depot-Lupron shots (monthly injection) to stop any further pubertal development.  We just stopped the shots last June.  She was 12 yrs, 10 months when she got the last shot.  We are waiting now for her menstrual cycle to start - but there are no signs yet that it is imminent.  One reason for giving the shots, besides not wanting her in puberty when she was 5 yrs old, is to allow more time for growth, to reach a more normal height.  Margaret, how tall is your child?
