Hi,

I noticed you didn’t post an email but I wanted to check in to let you know that I am thinking about you both. I can’t even imagine the pain that you all must have gone through and are still experiencing from the loss of your son.

I have three boys and I can’t even imagine one of them not being with me. My youngest is 10 1/2 months old and has SV CAH. My husband and I  are willing to try again for a girl. I mentioned in my other post that now that you know that Andrew had CAH, you will be able to determine before the birth of your next child if he/she is affected and you will be prepared. With the right treatment from birth, the next baby will be just fine.

While I was in NY at Cornell getting DNA testing done on my son and on myself I met a husband and wife that had lost a little boy, Christopher, due to an adrenal crisis at a week or two old the previous year. They were at the hospital having their second baby , a girl, Christina who also had CAH. The baby was born and was observed in the PICU and then started on her meds. To this day she is happy and healthy.  Her mom took Dexamethasone while pregnant and the little girl did not have any virilization.

Little Christopher made it possible for Christina to have a healthy life from the get go. That is why they named her after her brother.  I hope that this little story give you a little bit of hope that your next child will be just fine.  Feel free to email me any time. Although I haven’t experienced what you are I would be happy to share the information I have with you.

I hope you are doing well.

Sandra
