Danny CarltonThis very thread is the first time I’ve heard anyone mention liquid cortef as having anything to do with the deaths of any children. You need to be aware that any attorneys, for either side can have access to this board as well as the archives, and the absence of any comments, in the midst of numerous posts, regarding a link between liquid cortef and any particular death would definitely be evidence that such a link wasn’t considered until the lawsuit was mentioned.
Put down the torches and pitch forks, and listen to reason. Upjohn’s patend on Cortef ran out years ago, yet no other pharmaceutical company has yet to bother making a generic. That should say something about the profitability of producing and marketing Cortef. Cortef is the most effective medication for children with CAH. If producing it becomes cost prohibitive due to irresponsible lawsuits, Upjohn may very well decide to discontinue production. This is the real world, not some socialist utopia. Companies exist to make money, not to go broke giving away stuff. And trial attorneys are not noble, self-sacrificing do-gooders that only want to see justice done. By and large they are bottom-feeding, low-life that make their living off the suffering of others.
Here’s an idea. Let the lawyers promise, in writing, to accept only expenses and a set fee as payment for their services, regardless of the size of any award, then they would be showing that they aren’t just after a nice hefty contingency. I won’t be holding my breath.
