Dear Jennifer:

If you do have a virilized daughter with CAH or even a daughter with CAH but without the extreme virilization, her offspring will still be exposed to at least one of our medications ( hydrocortisone, prednisone or Dex) because your daughter will not be able to stop taking the steroid during her pregnancy. Makes you wonder also how a male’s sperm is effect by the steroids. Boys or girls, no way around it we have to deal with the cortisones.

I know from my own experiences that no amount of money or comfort from my parents made having CAH with virilization any better. Going to a psychologist didn’t help the fact of being different down there either.

It seems that the girls with no virilization or very little virilization have had it better. It seemed that by someone taking Dex, they would give their daughter a better chance in life. Life is hard enough without having to go through things that CAH can bring you like ambiguous genitals.

My rantings are from someone that sees an opportunity for a baby that doesn’t have to go through the same nightmare that I did. I don’t mean any of this to be offensive. I was just curious about the decision that you made. Please take care
