Jennifer,

Congratulations to you and your family on your pregnancy!  What a blessing!

I know that taking dex during your pregnancy is a very personal decision.  When I got pregnant with my second daughter, I started taking dex right away.  I was 5 weeks pregnant.  I did the amnio and it confirmed for us that we indeed had a girl with ssw cah.  I was relieved when she was born and had no virilization.  Beyond that and something we are seeing develop as our daughters get older, is the difference in their behaviors.  It is difficult to say if it has anything to do with a more balanced hormones in utero but my oldest is very tomboyish and aggressive.  My youngest is a princess who would rather die than put on pants.  It just makes us wonder.  I am very glad that I chose to take dex.  I figured the benefits would far out weigh any possible negative side effects.

Another note, my sister took dex for 5 weeks when she was pregnant with her son.  She was waiting for results to see if she and her husband were carriers.  When they discovered they were not, she was weaned off.  He has been followed because of this and has shown no ill effects.  He is now 5 1/2.

We also felt blessed since we new our daughter had CAH, we were able to "plan" her birth.  All of the appropriate doctors were present.  So there was no need to rush her to the children’s hospital after birth and we could relax and enjoy the beautiful moment.  Something we definetly were not able to do when my oldest daughter was born.

Best of luck to you and your family, Jennifer!
