re: pregnant with second!! Not taking Dex

There is a big difference in salt wasting CAH and simple virlizing CAH.  Rarely are the simple virilizing CAH baby in need for reconstructive surgery and are not severely virilized (therefore most doctors don’t even recommend dex treatment - some say take it just in case).  Also the simple virilizing female  become more virilized without treatment.  Some simple virilizing CAH girls are not even diagnosized until age 3 or more when they become very virilized.  But the salt wasting CAH girl can be very severely virilized at birth - so much that you can not say whether or not if it is a boy or girl.  Then most people get the surgery done because of physcial and psychological needs.

I know everyone is jumping on you to get the genetic testing (CVS or amnio) or to take the dex.  If you did not take the dex in early pregnancy (before 8 or 9 weeks - while the sex organs are forming) it won’t work anyway - so why take it.  And then why get the amnio?  I agree - the ultrasound should be good enough to tell you whether or not it is a girl or boy or maybe it is be a girl so virilized that they think it is boy but again - there is nothing you can do.

And the surgery is not the end of the world. Hopefully you will get a very good surgeon - one that specializes in this surgery and has a proven success rate and not just wanting to try it out on your child for practice and fame.  Enjoy for pregnancy!!! Enjoy the birth of your new baby!!! CAH is not so bad!! If I could - I would have a dozen more!! CAH is treatable.... and the children are so smart (normal in every way).  Extra male hormones are not so bad - especially for a male. And the females are very female!! They have all the internal female organs and female hormones - very female.

So congrats again!!  When are due?  Any names?

Why not just get the blood test done from Dr. Maria New to find out what kind of CAH that you and your husband are carrying?  This would not be as INVASIVE .... or toying with nature or GOD.  God gave us these procedures and tests.  Anyway - the genetic blood test from Dr. Maria New office would be very beneficial to you and your children because it would confirm the CAH cause.  All you need to have done is a blood drawns from you, your husband and your daughter  - and it done locally and sent to Dr. Maria New office.  I had it done and I don’t live in New York.  And our insurance covered the procedure.  I think that it is important for your daughter’s treatment and future.  There are so many varieties of CAH - get the blood work done to find out  - it can be done now before the baby is born. Then after she or he is born - they can test the blood to confirm the type of CAH.  More importantly - you would know the type for your other dauther too.
