So many questions!LauraKIs this dosing schedule necessary? Absolutely not! We do lots of things for our children that aren’t necessary, but are beneficial (think piano lessons). If you have a normal weight child with good growth, forget it. Do the am dose as early as possible and enjoy your sleep. Snore some for me. ;>}
One of the most informative aspects of this message board for me has been the often repeated personal accounts of slow growth and excess weight. My girls (SV, ages 10 and 13) were experiencing the same problems. ShaunP posted a copy of the circadian rhythm chart, and it all made sense. I came up with the 3am schedule, and talked with Carol M about it. She did some research and found a wonderful study using this schedule. We got the ok from our endo and we were off.
We’ve been dosing this way for several months. My girls’ control has never been better, and their growth and weight and bone age advancement are wonderful. Their total Cortef doses are down dramatically. I’m sold. A little interruption in my sleep is well worth the benefit to them. The girls don’t wake up, so it’s not a problem for their sleep.
We don’t plan on doing it forever. My little one will be done growing in a few years, and then we’ll see. I can’t justify not using a better way just because we won’t always use it. We’ll do it while we can. If they find it helps later, they can continue. Hopefully they’ll be like Betsy, and their meds schedule will be no big deal.
I’ll email additional information to those who asked. Did I miss any questions?
