My daughter struggled with weight for a number of years.  We never realized just how overweight she was until we looked at some old pictures recently.  Every time we had to increase her meds due to dosage being too low/out grown, her appetite would increase and then she would develop bad habits of eating bigger/more servings, sneaking snacks when she got home from school, etc.    She felt bad about her weight, but the more we tried to help, the harder it was for her.

This past winter, she developed reflux.  Actually it had been building for quite a while, but it got so bad that she could not eat because everything made her stomach hurt.  She lost 18 - 20 lbs really fast - not a good way to do it.  Since then, she was forced to change her eating habits.  We buy low fat everything.  She eats smaller portions and still has snacks, but she turns toward healthier snacks now.  not that she doesn’t have ice cream sometimes at night or a few cookies - but we buy Healthy Choice ice cream or sherbet or frozen fruit bars - and Snackwell cookies.  Since changing the way she eats, she has lost another 10-12 lbs slowly.  She says she feels so much better!  She also exercises - walking with me in the evening, walking/running on the treadmill at home, playing basketball in the driveway, going for bike rides, etc.  It all helps.  Her diet is easy to follow - just watch the fats.  If you do that and don’t load up on sugar, you will restrict the caloric intake.  Add a little exercise and you boost metabolism.  I don’t mean to make it sound "easy" because it isn’t.  Another thing that helped is that my 13 yrs old daughter was suddenly very aware of her body image.  Now she enjoys wearing jeans, short skirts, cute little tee-shirts instead of the baggy clothing.  Talk about a morale booster.

Good luck - and if you daughter would like to talk with Kristin, let me know. We can set it up.
