Weird.

I would have thought of course that anywhere sodium may be needed, that the hormone responsible for fluid retention would be involved and cross over. My last two pregancies I had polyhydramnious (too much fluid in the uterus surrounding baby) and I assumed it was my diet or something. I’d love to find the link between there being too much fluid in the uterus. Some said it can be kidney problems which of course mean that a baby is peeing lot’s into the amniotic fluid and not retaining much fluid? However, scans after birth showed no kidney damage in the fourth child as he had a two vessel cord instead of a three vessel cord. They said that that was not an hereditary thing but the same thing happened for my sister with one of her babies.

So why the excess fluid? I was wondering sometime back if it was eating salt as my blood pressure was elevated slightly in the last few weeks. That would account for the excess fluid in utero anyway---but I guess there is no connection to that and hydrocortisone crossing the placenta? How did they manage to study that without taking amniocentisis or other such invasive methods?
