re: To Mr. Carlton and all

I think the difference (correct me if I’m wrong) is that I (and several others on this board) see life as intentional. All events have a purpose and are not random nor accidents. A man has a flat tire which makes him late, which means he misses his flight. But when he gets home and turns on the TV he sees the flight he had tickets for crashed into the everglades, with no survivors (true story).  An attractive, athletic, yet somewhat self-absorbed teenagers dives into the lake at the wrong spot, and becomes a paraplegic. But what would have been a fairly normal and obscure life, becomes one of world wide recognition and fame (including a movie based on her life, testifying as an expert before Congress and currently a daily radio broadcast) and now over 35 years later she is still in demand as a public speaker and author. A 14 year old girls, with dreams of being a teacher, gets sick and loses her sight. But had she not lost her sight she would have vanished into obscurity like the millions of other young girls whose lives we know nothing about, but because of her blindness, her sister, through daily walks in which she made every effort to describe everything she saw in as intricate a detail as possible, built an amazing gift for writing, and later gave the world a book series that has entertained and educated billions of children for over 70 years now, and the young blind girl lives on in those books and is internationally recognizable to hundreds of millions even today.

So you can see why the question of "would you rather", is obvious to those of us who firmly believe that no matter what is given us, it’s was given with infinite knowledge, infinite care and infinite love, and is always for the best.

Ask a 3 year old, giving blood how would you have answered the same question about that? Most 3 year olds I know would much prefer not to give blood, but we as adults know, while it’s painful for a short while, in the long run it is for the best.

If life and reality is only random and accidental, then we have a lot more to worry about that just a medical condition, but if it’s purposeful and intentional, then we should acknowledge each gift as from a loving God and to our betterment.
