ValerieDHi Teresa,
Welcome! It will get easier in time - we have all been where you are right now. We all understand! My son is SW-CAH and was diagnosed at 17 days. When he was around 5, he started experiencing severe stomach problems due to the cortef. Our endo’s at first said they didn’t feel that the stomach discomfort he was having was caused by the cortef, BUT the pharmacist did. He insisted that Cortef was very difficult on an empty stomach. Unfortunately, we had been giving him his am med at around 6am ON AN EMPTY STOMACH of course. We would give it to him and her would roll over and go back to sleep! So, I called my sister-in-law who just so happens to be a RN-Practicioner and works for gastroenterologists (sp?). She discussed this with one of the doctors in the office whom suggested we put him onl PepcidAC immediately. She gave me the dose etc. We went ahead and started immediately and I noticfied the endo. At the next appointment, we started seeing a different endo in the group who admitted that he would have suspected the Cortef immediately! But anyway, the point is that he was on it for about 3-4 months and then we weaned him off. He still gets his morning med at 6am, but now we give it with milk! He has been fine ever since. I don’t know what the difference is between PepcidAC and Zantac, but I believe that they are similar. Thought that I would share my story - Good Luck!!
