Broken Bone?.... need to increase?....

I am very clear that when there is a broken bone then it is treated as an emergency for the CAH child. There needs to be a shot given and a ride to the hospital.  However, this is not as easy as it sounds.  Sometimes a break is very obvious.... and sometimes not.  What does one do when your not sure if there is an actual break? Is the stress dose because of the actual break in the bone that the body needs to repair? Or is the stress dose for the pain and anxiety caused by the break? ( A very good question asked by a friend of mine! )

 Here is the situation.........

Brayden fell on his thumb last night. He did not cry but it was hurting. The thumb is puffy and swollen.  He can bend it some. He is favoring his other hand.  He has difficulty using the thumb. ( He has an appointment to see the doctor this afternoon.  )  So, I have heard of kids having breaks but not acting as if there was a break.... no screaming crying etc... what do you do for the CAH child for a sprain?  Has anyone had a broken bone that didnt appear as a broken bone?

I would rather over react and be wrong..... but it is such a fine line.
