Actually I didn’t take the Fosamax as often as I was supposed to (didn’t get the prescription refilled on time) - I hadn’t taken it for 2 months before the dexascan was done. All told I probably took 4 or 5 months worth? Maybe. You take it once a week the first thing in the morning with a full glass of water - you can’t take meds, eat, or lie down for 1/2 an hour after taking it. No side effects that I noticed.
