KareUnless you start the anti-viral within a day or so, it’s probably really not going to help much. We happened to have the anti-viral on hand when our CAH daughter had The Pox last year (she had been exposed a few months before with another child, and we got the acyclovir just in case...). Who knows if it helped or not.
Just be careful with the double-dosing.....we only went up by 1.5...not double....if you suppress the immune system too much, the pox could take over. Chicken pox was the one thing we were worried about for years....from all the reading we had done, we read it’s the one thing that can go funny on a CAH child. Some endos plunk the CAH kids in the hospital just in case. However, if you don’t overdo the cortef, she should be fine...and I’m sure your endo is up to snuff on that whole thing.
Good luck......we had one really bad day through the whole expeirence....breaking out very quickly all day long.....after not being sure if it was the pox the day before. It was definitely a quirky case, but fluids and oatmeal baths got us through.
ALSO, check with your endo about Tylenol vs Motrin. There is definitely something specifically for chicken pox that one is preferred over the other.....but I am so sorry I can’t remember which it was!
