RobertaUntreated or mis-managed CAH can cause inferitily in males and females because there is a hormonal imbalance - too much male hormones.
So that is why it is so important to defect CAH in the newborn - especially the non-salt wasting form. The non-salt wasting form but be milder and may not affect the person as much but CAH can vary so much - it is hard to say that what MILD means. I know that the salt wasting is very severe.... and untreated - the person will die.
Fertility may not be restored if there is long term affects of bad treatment (mismanaged CAH) and untreated CAH. In males the testis will be too small...that is one outward sign and one thing that my ped endo checks (check the size) at every visit.
adverse affects on the pituitary gland - of course!! There is a feedback loop! CAH is a hormonal imbalance if not treated properly!! And too much cortisol is not better or a cure. It can be worst!
