robertaGo to Dr. Maria New web site for CAH and look at the fact sheet on CAH testing ... and call them (look at the phone number is my thread above).
Most of us on theCAH (are parents of salt wasting CAH) - salt wasting CAH form - (carrier of the gene for CAH and does not have CAH - both parents have to be carrier of the gene - carry the gene but do not have CAH) and then most of us had to take the dex treatment - if it was our second pregnancy and we knew we were carriers or had a child with SWCAH. I took the dex treatment at 4 or 5 weeks and it was a boy. And then I stopped the dex at 10 weeks. It is important to take the dex as soon as possible for by 5 or 6 weeks is okay. It must be taken before 7 or 8 weeks - if you are carrying a girl with CAH. You also have to have a CVS or amnio test to find out if it is a girl with CAH. That is done at 10 weeks. You will need ultrasound done at 8 weeks to make sure the baby is viable (heart beat) and then they of course do more ultrasounds at 10 weeks during the CVS. I had the CVS done at Fairfax IVF Genetic Center. I recommend them. I didn’t have IVF but this center was top notch. They were experts in CVS testing and felt very comfortable letting them do it because they had done for many and their lab was on site.
I am not sure about LOCAH. Do they take the dex treatment too if they are carriers or have LOCAH? Is there an issue with LOCAH and ambiguous genitalia (if it is a girl?) I know there would be for a salt wasting CAH but I am not sure about LOCAH (unless your husband is a carrier of the salt wasting CAH gene).
Are you being treated for LOCAH? If you are already taking dex or hydrocortisone then what?
I think that it is going to be UNLIKELY that your husband is a carrier or has CAH. VERY unlikely. But get both of your blood samples tested to be sure. That is the smart thing to do.
It takes a couple of weeks for the testing. Maybe they can rush it. The blood samples are taken locally and fed-exed. And of course they want your insurance information. You want the tests results given to your IVF doctors and OB doctors and to your endrocrinologist and your family doctor.
Call Dr. Maria New office!! Good luck with the IVF. The count down has began, huh? Two weeks - wow!! I rember how I felt with my pregnancy (I didn’t have IVF) but the counting the days was something else. I kept a journal. I know you will love seeing the first ultrasounds! I am sure they will do one at 5 or 6 weeks too - and then again at 7 and 8 weeks... and then at 10 weeks for the CVS. ...let us know what is going on! How exciting!!
