ValerieDHi Jenni - My sons necklace says: "Adrenal Insufficiency" rather than Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia because our endo said that most will not know what CAH is. I know when we got our newest necklace, directly from MedicAlert, they had 2 or 3 phrases that could be used for CAH, and "Adrenal Insufficiency" was one that was available so I used it. I work in the jewelry industry and still prefer the ones directly from MedicAlert, as they are able to engrave SO deeply into their stainless plaques, so there is no fear of the engraving being worn off or the plate being scratched and hard to read. I know of one diabetic customer of ours who insists on wearing a gold medic alert bracelet she purchsed from us. After an unfortunate situation for her and having to call 911, she was notified after by the EMT’s, that they didn’t see her braclet at first ( it was tucked under the cuff of her sweater and that they had checked her neck first when they were checking for vitals etc) , that when they found it under her sweater cuff, that the lighting was so poor that they couldn’t make out what the bracelt even said! They had to take the time to remove it and bring it directly under a lamp and still had difficulty. I , much to my boss’ dismay, suggested that she get a stainless steel one from MedicAlert. At the very least, if you purchase one elsewhere, have it HAND-engraved, NOT machine-engraved as is done in most jewelry stores. Demand that it be hand-engraved - the problem being that most hand-engravers will not engrave on stainless-steel! Hope I didn’t confuse you and perhaps you should check with your endo as to what he/she believes you should have engraved on yours.
