SandraHi Gina,
I don’t think that you have to worry too much about your daughter. My son has the Simple virilizing CAH (non salt waster). He was caught through newborn screening. Although they say, at least in TX, that the screen can only pick up SW CAH, I have know of 3 little boys that have SVCAH and were picked up through the screen. If you are still worried you can have a stimulation test done or DNA test done to see if she is a carrier or if she is affected with nonclassic or a different type of CAH.
What kind of CAH does your step son have? Do you know what gene your husband carries? I am assuming it is your husbands son. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
In order for your daughter to have CAH, unless it is a spontaneous change in her genetic makeup, then you and your husband would need to be carriers. Even if you were both carriers it would only be a 25% chance that your child would have CAH. Have you ever had a DNA test to see ifyou were a carrier. If your husband is a carrier it might not be a bad idea to find out if you are too.
I was surprised to see that I was a carrier for the SV gene. I would have never even bothered to check, of course, if I hadn’t had a son with CAH.
