re: 2yr old w/ CAH, what other alternative for sodium chloride

Most 21-Hydroxylase form of CAH (classical, non-classical and simple virilized) take cortef (hydrocortisone) and florinef.

And we did not give salt after the child is eating and drinking well (one year of age).   I salted the milk and food.  I put 1/8 teaspoon of salt in each bottle (8 ounces of milk).  And slightly salted the food because I was salting the drinks as well.  I think at least one-teaspoon of salt is need for a two year old. But without florinef to retain the salt.  I could have given the whole bottle or container of salt and he still would have not retained the salt.  The the blood pressure would be too low.  Cortef or hydrocortisol is helping some and together with the florinef - it stops the salt wasting.

Now - no salt... the foods are all very salty and he gets enough salt with the medication retaining the salt.
