KareFrom the post below concerning the accident my daughter was in, the nurse driving the car found it frustrating, too, that the paramedics wouldn’t listen to her, either. She had airbag burns and was banged up....and was still trying to convince them that Christina needed a shot. After a few days of thought, she has come up with this line:
"This child will not respond to conventional shock therapy. This child will not respond to vasopressors and requires an immediate shot of cortisol"
Vasopressors are the drugs used when a patient goes into shock. HOWEVER, without the proper cortisol levels present, vasopressors WILL NOT WORK. They only work in conjunction with a working cortisol system or with cortisol introduced into the system.
ALSO: read the Solu-Cortef package insert under Indications: "Solu-Cortef Sterile Powder is indicated for IV or IM use in the following conditions....in the event of serious trauma or illness in patients with known adrenal insufficiency....shock unresponsive to conventional therapy if adrenocortical insufficiency exists..." (my italics) and then it specifically mentions congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
