Danny CarltonWhile she mentions sexual preference, she didn’t imply it had anything to do with CAH. So I had planned to leave it. While the relationship of CAH and sexual preference is controversial, I’m hesitant about "banishing" such brief mentions of it. I know that were the thread to continue on that line, some people might find it offensive, but people also find discussions of religion offensive. My general policy in message board administration has always been to allow all discussions and opinions since that is the only system which ultimately allows for the truth to get told. This board is an exception since A. it is topical and B. we really don’t want to run people off who need the support and information provided here. Moving controversial topics to the Controversies board makes sense, but I don’t want to leave the impressions that only heterosexuals are welcome on this board. We would then be running off quite a few of the people that need this board the most.
It should be obvious from the FAQ section, my personal opinion on homosexuality, but that is entirely aside from the need to reach out and help people. We have several people who post here who are lesbian, that contribute quite a bit to the information and support that this board is intended to provide. I don’t want any of them to think they aren’t welcome and valued, that includes Jade/Sparkle.
I’m torn between the sense of fariness that says if we can disguss our religion and expect those who find it distasteful to put up with it, then we should offer the same courtesy for those who wish to discuss their lifestyle, that we may find distasteful; and the possbility that if such discussion became too common we could lose many of the people this board is here to serve.
In the end I want Sparkle/Jade to know that we’re here for her, and want her to remain a part of our group.
