I think it is a litle unfair to assume that parents take the dex ’to reduce the discomfort of having a virilised girl’.  Many parents reading this board will have heard the stories of adults who have had appalling surgery and be anxious to save their child, not from the embarrasment of an enlarged clitoris, but from any form of surgery - if possible!  Although not always 100% successful, I believe the outcome for most is reasonably good and I think most mothers would think the side effects worth the risk and  would do anything to prevent their child suffering unnecessarily.
