Jill THi Sue,
I live in Canada and have never been offered a cortef suspension. My 4 yr old son has been on liquid hydrocortisone, prepared by our pharmacy each week made from crushed cortef tablets with a suspension liquid. Our endo has another patients who’s pharmacist prepares the powder packets you are talking about. This process of crushing and measuring each individual dose and then wrapping it in ind. papers is very time-consuming so not many pahrmacists would willing to do this on a regular basis (including ours). It would be nice though, since having a liquid that is stable for only one week at a time and requires refrigeration is a bit of a pain. We do carry extra cortef tablets in our first aid kit at all times, just in case we run out of liquid before we can get to the pharmacy. We can’t split them into our son’s exact doses, so we can’t use them regularly.
Hope this helps! Take care - Jill T.
