NatalieAAs some of you know my 9 yr old salt wasting CAH daughter has not been well. A few weeks ago while on vacation in San Francisco she was became ill. Her fever shot to 103 and she was taken into the Emergency room for treatment. Although she was not in "crisis" I did give her "the shot" because of the fever. They treated her with fluids, tried hard to figure out the source (ears, throat, blood work, x-rays, blah, blah, blah) to no avail, the fever dropped and we went home with the guess that it was viral. We saw her old pediatrician there locally and he checked her for ear infections and such and as a precaution put her on Augmentin (antibiotics). We are from that area so we felt fairly comfortable with the care we got there (in case some of you were wondering why we didnt quickly hop on a plane and get back home). When we did get home several days later she had a strong cough and we followed up with her pediatrician here. She agreed to continue the antibiotics and gave her a stronger cough medicine than the Delsym we were using. The cough has gone and now that you have the history here is the question: Why on earth does she still have a fever off and on everyday? She doesnt feel good, she is tired, she is very cranky, over the weekend her face was extremely puffy, she is cranky (did I mention that already?) I took her back to the pedo yesterday and they ran a CBC and her electrolytes. I just dont know what to think. The fever is low enough to keep her on normal med doses. It hasnt gone higher than 99-100. But its there one minute and gone the next. Maybe its just a virus but are we hurting her by letting this thing ride itself out? Is something masked because of the Cortef? With that puffy facial swelling over the weekend I asked the pedo to check her BP and it was 90-56. She always runs 110-70! Low not high? Not sure what to do. I welcome any advice. Thanks for listening you guys are great!
