Roberta PrestonYes - in the thousand if salt wasting CAH but not necessary if non-classical. The bigger question is what are the male hormone levels? With non-classical - if this is not treated and the male hormone levels are out of control - then there are problems with infertility and no magic wand to fix it if it is treated over the long term. Also short statue. The child grows tall but then ends up as a short adult. The cortisol challenge test is controversal test for non-classical CAH. It may be a true reflection for classical salt wasting form but not all forms of CAH. So the scary thought to think that the child is okay - and tall for his age... and maturing fast but then end up with long term problems with fertility and height. The non-classical CAH kid can also go into puberty early.
If it was my child - recommendation from a PARENT on this message board would NOT ease my mind. Please get an expert ped endo advice - like Dr. Maria New or one of the doctors can has experience in CAH. Again - please get a ped end that is practiced in CAH. Too many ped endo confuse CAH with the salt wasting classical CAH because it is more fatal. Reminder - there are several forms of CAH. BIG QUESTION - why didn’t this doctor take the male hormone levels? Were the labs samples sent to a ped endo lab? What time of the day were the labs taken?
Apparently your child’s condition is not fatal but there can be side affects that you would not wish on him. It is your responsiblity to get the best advice and treatment.
