Anne-MarieFrom what I can gather, salt craving is something that occurs only when they do not receive the correct dose of florinef or miss florinef tablets. Once that situation is rectified, they have pretty much a normal salt retention and so therefore do not crave salt overly or should not do really. I did read something on the addisons board this week about kids on florinef needing to eat a little more potassium based foods such as bananas. (I usually give all my kids bananas as a first meal after vomiting and during any diahorea episodes as they seem to settle their tummies and help with that.) Funny too that Ashley DOES have a weakness for bananas anyway and can go through a whole bunch within a day or so! Then when we have missed a dose of florinef he has been craving chippies or salty foods and pickles. He has been nauseous when florinef was missed for two days. This has happened when we swtiched to packing his tablets into compartments and I was so preoccupied I omitted the florinef. One day three he was very nauseous and I checked the pill containers. Another time he had 6 weeks on dexamethasone and as it did not have mineralocorticoid properties so his renin was elevated somewhat at the next lot of blood tests, but this rectified itself when we went back to hydrocortisone.
