Anne-MariePerhaps a child with normal adrenal function can handle convulsions better than a CAH child? Would you really want to take that chance and dice about with a CAH child and find out later it was a bad thing to leave them without trying to bring down the temp? The quicker you act for a CAH child and bring down the temp, the less chances of a crisis. In dealing with the temp and doubling the meds you are doing no harm and more than likely saving that child from serious consuences.
I have just had a gruesome weekend with my youngest child who keeps getting recurrent ear infections and it took every ounce of courage to resist the anti-biotics this time and leave him and use homeopathic remedies. Pulsatilla, belladonna and mecurious. By Monday he is fine and no temp and is recovering. However, it did get worse before it got better and we had to give panadol in some parts. Convusions may be nothing to some, but I am afraid I feel differently. When there are aids to bring a temperature down I feel that they should be used. the virus will sort itself out--may take a day or so longer, but at least the child is comfortable.
If you had a burning temperature and a shocking neck pain and head pain ask yourself if you would put up with the pain? Why then should a child? I actually new my younger child had a healthy immune response and would deal with anything adrenally. However, as far as CAH is concerned--you would be hard pressed to get ANY Doctor to tell you half the time if you should double their med’s or not--nevermind if they would be okay haing a febrile convusion or fit and if they would come out of that in one piece.
