The only reason I felt that lowered body temp would be associated with lowered cortisol levels was that lowered body temp occurs before we fall asleep and at that time the cortisol levels are very low.  I guess that they are also low in hypothermia also.  So I assumed that lowering the body temp in a normal healthy child with panadol/tylenol artificially would in turn lower the cortisol levels somewhat--which is probably another thing not good for fighting a virus either.    When there is a viral illness then, is it the lowered body temp or the lowered cortisol levels (which would otherwise be raised if they had not had the tylenol) or a combination of the two the culprit in normal halthy kids?  Who knows??

I just felt that although we do lower the body temp in illness in CAH, we are giving the kids a head start in raising their cortisol levels at the same time--which doesn’t happen for healthy kids who don’t get oral cortisol doses.   I have no idea what happens physiologically, but I do know that it work for us everytime to give both in illness, no matter what the illness is so far.  Touch wood...
