re: Immunization and stress dose.

My son with CAH got through all of his shots fine without stress doses, but I always worried.  I was lucky-he never developed a fever with any shots.  My older son who does not have CAH developed a fever after his first set of shots but did fine after that.

You are right that with live vaccines it may not be a good idea to stress dose, since that can affect her immune system and make her more susceptible to side effects from the vaccines.  I don’t know if a double dose could suppress her immune system so much that the vaccination would be ineffective.  I doubt it, but I’m not sure.  Also, if your child does develop a fever associated with the MMR or varicella vaccine it usually would occur more than a week after vaccination, so double dosing the day of vaccination wouldn’t help.  Fever is a very rare complication of the Prevnar vaccine so I wouldn’t worry about that too much.  I agree that you should ask your endo for advice.  It’s a complicated issue!

What country are your from?  I’m just curious because in the United States we don’t usually give MMR or varicella vaccines until after 12 months of age.

I hope all goes well.  Shots are no fun!!
