insurance woes....

This summer I was gearing up in my mind to change professions from elementary teacher to child care in my home. I wanted to be with my daughter more and there is a huge need in our area for child care. I have taught preschool for years and knew what I was getting into (hard work but full of love!) I would only take children 2 yr or older as I believe that younger than that and they need to be at home. I started looking into insurance and found that my husband could get coverage but not my daughter with a pre existing condition. She has ALWAYS had coverage through my work. So we tried to switch from Blue Cross group coverage to individual and they denied her. I freaked out as I had already quit my job. We live in California. I have since taken a temporary position teaching Kindergarten for this year because we needed insurance. This bummed me out. Does anyone know of what I could do for next year if I try to do child care again? Who would insure my daughter? Again, coverage has never lapsed but they didn’t seem to care about that one way or another or the fact that we we covered by them. They said it’s two different things: group and individual coverage. I am confused. Thanks for any insight! Julia
