re: cortef (hydrocortisone) vs cortone (cortisone acetate)

About a year after my daughter was on cortef (hydrocortisone), I switched pharmacists and somehow ended up with cortone (cortisone acetate) instead of cortef. I hadn’t noticed. Within 2 days I knew something was amiss. My daughter was very fussy, fidgety and crying a lot. I began looking to see what was different and noticed the name change on the prescrip. When I called the pharmacist, I was told there was no difference in them. Being the sceptic that I am, I called around and found a caring pharmacist who offered to do a bit of research for me. His return call basically stated that the cortisone acetate had a much slower or lower absorption rate in some people. Anyway, I insisted on a replacement prescription. Within a few days, my daughter returned to her happy. We’re from Canada. My daughter was prescribed cortef until she was about 13 whenshe was on prednisone. While there were short periods of over suppression as well as under suppression, overall we’ve been happy with her growth...she’s actually taller than me.
