Anne-MarieI was just wondering... why not kill two birds with one stone? Since you would really like a girl and have three boys---and there is a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with CAH, wouldn’t it be nice to have the IVF and actually influence the possible sex of the next baby and also ensure that there is less chance that it be a girl with CAH? I know which I would have preferred anyhow. I just think it is really a dicey way to bring children into the world, especially when most plan their kids and would I am sure rather have a choice to reduce the risk of having another CAH child to zero.
There will always be the occasional unexpected pregancy of course, and for this we have no choice but to choose dex or no dex and accept whatever happens with either choice, but to my mind we should also have the choice if we want to plan these things to avoid the dex therapy and chorinic villi sampling or amniocentisis and also avoid the 1 in 4 risk by having IVF. It should be covered by health insurance too given that it is making a concerted effrot to avoid having a child who will be dependant for life on medical care and med’s.
I wanted another girl, but winded up having five boys for my trouble! I do wish you good luck in trying. :)
