Hi Alesia,

Depending on where you live there are many programs available to people who have no insurance. I am assuming that since your son is 20 he probably doesn’t have a ton of money and if he did insurance wouldn’t be a problem right!?! Anyway, I used to do billing for an ambulance company during my college years and  I came across different types of programs. They were either through the county or through the state. I would first check with the most obvious, medical. From there have your son contact the county to find out if there are any other programs for lower income people. Also, if your son is in school, he may be able to get insurance through them.

The bad thing is that you don’t want to let your insurance lapse before you get new insurance. That is were you run into problems with preexsisiting stuff. Again though, I don’t know how long the preexisting thing is in play. I thought it is ususally only for 3 months that they don’t cover you for preexisiting problems.  It’s worth a try for him to check it out.

On another note, that is great that he is on his own. Most kids now a days stay home long into there 20’s!! I am glad to hear that your son did well most of his life. Do you think he was over suppressed most of his life becuase you weren’t aware of the signs or that it could happen? I have a 15month old SV CAH. He doesn’t waste salt but I am always concerened about too much steroids. He is on a relatively small dose and he hardly needs stress dosing so far. I am hoping he continues this way so that maybe we can avoid the oversuppression problems later on.

I didn’t recognize the medication your son is now on (Medrol? ) What is that? I have only heard of the cortef, prednisone and dexamethasone.

Good luck,

Sandra
