Yep, me too. I have a deep voice. School was a nightmare because of it. Kids would mock me all the time about my voice. In class out of class, it didn’t matter.

I’m 5’1" and a Cambell’s soup kid face so I guess people assume I should have a higher voice.

I remember when I was a  server having people make many comments about my voice. Countless people asked me if I had a cold or a sore throat. I didn’t and said "No" and then they said ,"Well ...your voice it sounds like you are sick." I told them "No, this is my voice, it’s very distinctive."

Another time, I took a man’s order and he started smiling and then started laughing. "Tell me the joke, sir" I asked. He replied," Your voice, you would think that you should have a high squeaky voice because you’re such a little thing but instead you sound like Marge Sholtz (sp?) smoking 4 packs of cigarettes a day ( I don’t smoke) . For those of you that don’t know she is an older lady that owns or owned the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.

After those and a few more comments that were not nice at all . I became very self conscious about my deep voice and tried to make it sound higher. That didn’t work either and sounded unnatural. Trying to make my voice higher gave me a sore throat with the strain on my vocal cords.

It wasn’t long after, that a radio personality from a news show came into eat and complimented me on my deeper voice. He said,"It was something to be proud of."

There was one guy that told me that he really liked my voice but after I had to tell him about the CAH and my situation with it. That was the end of that. No big deal,(smile) just added him to the list.

I’ve grown comfortable with my voice. I’ve been told that I have good phone presentation and another coworker wanted me to do the message on her voice mail because she liked the way I sounded.
